What operating system are the clients using? What's the age of the files that aren't appearing? We had an ongoing issue with newly created files not appearing for a long time, no amount of refreshing would help. This was on Vista bit and 7 bit. We have all the files in one share called UserShares and then the username in there. The drive is mapped via GPO. The share isn't used elsewhere. The clients are WIndows 7 x64 and the server that is sharing the folder is Windows Server Datacenter.
The files are all different ages, mostly older files. I've just reset all the permissions on the folder to see if this was the cause, the user now has full permisions and is the owner of their files. I can give that a go once - the user is back on the machine now but i'll try it when I can get access again. I just managed to get on the machine and that worked a treat - is this something I am going to have to add to all machines?
Do you have "Enable file sharing for devices that use 40 or 56 bit encryption" selected, under Network and Sharing center, Advanced sharing settings on every client computer. I don't see how this can be a DNS issue, as your are able to reach the server by either naming convention.
I think that the reason why using the fully qualified domain name of the server hosting the share works is because to the Win7 OS, that is a new path and hence is not part of the original directory cache so it shows you the new refreshed and current copy of that share with all the files in it.
If you disable this reg key then it will result in no shares being cached like this and you wont have the problem whether using fully qualified share paths or not. Set this key to fix this problem. These caches never used to exist in earlier OS'a than win7 so i wouldnt be concerned about flooding your servers with huge amounts of extra traffic! Unison, If the DirectoryCacheLifetime dword isn't present do i just create a new one?
I had the same issue with a computer. I fixed the problem by disabling IPv6 under the network settings on that computer. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. It is rather soul destroying when you cannot print to a printer on your own network. I have tried the same "fixes" and more and they all work either for a few nanoseconds or until you reboot the computer.
I have a similar problem, out of multiple devices on the home router with WiFi, only the router itself and the WiFi printer are shown.
Cannot hurt to first run Network Troubleshooter right click the icon is all. Now have log files created in AppData. However if the Windows Defender Firewall is disabled that last one redundant.
I had the same issue 3 days ago when I formatted and reinstalled windows using a newly made Media Creation Tool My other computer on network suddenly wouldn't appear. I've never had an issue with formatting and reinstalling and I've done reinstalls quite a bit throughout the years. I also tried to fix this by doing 20 different fixes suggested on various threads on how to fix network issues. None of them worked. It had to be whatever was on the update.
This was suggested by someone on another thread I created. Anyway after reinstalling and doing a network reset on my other computer, I saw my other computer on network again. Problems : 1. I have attempted the following fixes: Update to v and attempted fixes Implemented on all 4 machines 1. Optional Features - SMB1. Several online scripts to fix the issue. Please get this right MS! I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit.
