Since my last post I've also reformatted a laptop at work and tried with a fresh installation of Windows 7, but no avail. I did disable the internal bluetooth before I tried on the laptop. Needless to say I feel a bit ignored at this stage, and my confidence is rapidly waning in the ability of the Insignia support team to work on this.
I imagine that their staff is able to post as freely as we do, but perhaps they are only able to respond to each forum post as a single ticket? Even though I'm doing my best to provide all the info I have to help reproduce the problem. I'm also getting ready to give up, especially since I don't care for the fit of the headphones but I can't return them.
Bought them open box off ebay. I'm a Mac guy normally so looking at all the options for practically any Windows product gives me an instant headache. Another quick update. We recently got a new HP Pavilion dv7 without built in bluetooth, I'm taking this on a trip tomorrow so I tried it out. I have a clean installation of Win7 x86, downloaded the drivers as normal, saved to the default downloads folder and ran it, I suffered the same problem.
The latest download from Broadcom simply does not work on Windows 7. This is a lesson learned from trusting a new brand, I figured I'd support what could be a new big brand My coworker just got a Motorola headset that is very sleek, it is an in the ear design which are not my favorite, but its likely what I'm going to be investing in very soon.
The Motorolas you cite seem to get mixed reviews. I'm really not trying to make waves here, I just still had a subscription to this thread that I forgot about. What just happened in this thread is that the final posts were deleted where listener and I actually got our headset's and dongles working, ON OUR OWN, through a driver disk for another product, which I then ftp'd to listener While I can understand that Insignia may not want information that would encourage people to use workarounds that they cannot control, making the leap to deleting that info and post information that is incorrect and that will lead other Insignia customers to a dead end is foolhardy at best.
All users that find themselves wanting to use this headset in Windows 7 must locate an older release of the Broadcom installation. This can be found through the original ship cd for this headset, as well as the Rocketfish Bluetooth mini-adapter available at Best Buy in the mobile department. Both products use an identical driver installation package. While I'd be thrilled to help out, I'm assuming that Insignia does not want me to provide the CD image to anyone else. However, I've replaced those computers and trying to still get this headset to work. On Windows 7 the latest Broadcom installation still behaves the same way. I've tried all of the compatibility modes oth as administrator and not, the only difference is that somtimes it can't detect the dongle at all in some of modes and so the installation fails earlier.
Lets try to get this fixed, eh? I bought these thinking "Meh, Insignia? I guess I'll try them since it's hard to find other bluetooth stereo headphones. Now I've been disappointed for the last 6 months When downloading the Windows 7 driver you must choose the save to disk option and then run it from there.
If you choose the run option it will not load! I uploaded a screen capture with the error message the headphones are turned on and connected at the time :.
That error message is telling you that the Bluetooth in your computer does not have a Broadcom ID. If you use the Bluetooth adapter that came with the headset you must first turn off the internal Bluetooth. The other option is to download the updated driver from the HP site. Ok, how about when I get the exact same error, on 4 different desktops, with no other bluetooth?
If the provided dongle cannot function as it was designed then what is the solution here? If the problem was restricted to a certain OS then I wouldn't feel so shafted, but at this point I certainly feel shafted on this purchase. Also, was a good boy and followed instructions at the time of download and I used the save to disk option It work with all of them. You may have a bad piece of hardware.
